An elaborate feast was arranged for all the palace staff on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. It was a grand affair. The table was loaded with a variety of dishes. Everybody enjoyed the feast and sat down for dessert. In the meanwhile the table
was cleared and, as per custom, all the vessels and spoons were counted. One silver spoon was found missing. So an order was passed to search all the staff.
The pockets of all were searched. But one man would not allow himself to be searched. In spite of requests and coaxing he refused. The dinner came to a happy ending. But the next day this man was sacked.
After five years the lost silver spoon was found in the dining hall itself. So the man was called and asked why he refused to be searched. His answer melted every heart. He said: “My wife was sick at home and I had wrapped up two chicken pieces and
stuffed them in my pocket.”
Never accuse anyone hastily.
