The reputed North Indian missionary, Sadhu Sunder Singh used to travel far and wide to preach the Goodnews of Jesus Christ. Often he would cross the Indian border to go into Tibet, crossing cold mountains and valleys covered with snow. Once while he was walking on such a snow-covered rough terrain he saw a traveler lying on the road exhausted, unconscious and frostbitten. Just ahead of Sadhu Sunder Singh walked another man who did not pay attention to the dying man but walked ahead.
Sadhu’s heart welled with pity. He covered the man as much as he could and carried him on his shoulder to the next town. The pity is, he saw the man who walked ahead of him lying dead by the roadside in the cold. What was the secret? The man who died was alone and could not withstand the cold. But since Sadhu Sunder Singh carried a man, his muscles generated heat and the contact with another person produced warmth, so much so both survived.
Jesus said, “Blessed are the merciful for they shall get mercy.”
