There was an agriculture competition in the town. Pretty was very eager to participate in it. She grew up in a farm where her daddy cultivated lot of vegetables. So she was confident she would win a prize. Daddy had registered his name for the competition and so also Pretty. Daddy taught all the techniques to Pretty.
Morning daddy called her, “Come Pretty, let’s go to the market to buy some manure for the potato patch.” “O daddy, it is so cold. I can’t come” said Pretty. So daddy went and bought manure for him alone. “Come baby, let’s prepare the patch” daddy invited. Pretty came but she would not dig deep. Neither did she have manure. She felt lazy. It was now afternoon and the sun was beating down. Pretty didn’t want to sweat. But she planted the potatoes.
Evening daddy called her, “ Come darling, let’s water the patch.” Pretty was playing with her friends and shouted back, “Daaad, I’m playing. I’ll water my patch later.” When her playmates left it was getting dark and she could not water her patch that day. Days and months passed by. The harvest time was nearing and the competition date was closing in on them.
The next day the competitiors would bring their products and prizes would be distributed. Daddy and Pretty went to dig in their products. Daddy brought out huge big potatoes. Pretty put her hand inside the soil and searched for potatoes and pulled out tiny, shrivelled, pathetic ones. That year the prize for potatoes was bagged by daddy.
Without hard work you cannot come up in life. You must labor and sweat to win a prize. Lazy people do not accomplish much in life.
