A royal family was looking for a suitable bride for their son. Many girls came claiming to be princesses. The king and queen did not know how to ascertain if a girl was really a princess. Then they thought of a plan. When a girl came they would give her a bed to sleep with ten mattresses on it. They would put a pea under the bottom matress. When the girl got up in the morning they would ask her how she slept. If she told them that she slept soundly they concluded she was not a princess.
Many girls came. All slept soundly and they were all sent off as not fit for their prince. At last a beautiful girl came. She was given the same bed. Morning when the king and queen asked her how she slept she answered, “I could not sleep properly.
Something was under the matress that was irritating me.” The couple decided this was the girl for their son and got her married to him.
Children brought up very comfortably are fit only to be princes and princesses. Do not get used to all the comforts of life. Rise up early in the morning and have a bath (if possible in cold water). Wash your own clothes. Don’t be in an air- conditioned room all the time. Walk in the sun with an umbrella and travel by public transport. Eat simple food and get used to living in any kind of place. That way you will be an adjustable person. Otherwise you will find it difficult to adjust with different kinds of people in different places.
