A little boy who was riding his bicycle accidentally fell into a deep gutter full of flowing sewage. He was sinking and shouting for help. A young man who passed by that way saw him and said, “Hereafter you don’t be mischievous” and went along his way. Another man came along that road and hearing the screams, stopped. He looked at the sinking boy and said, “Oh my, as a boy you should have learnt swimming. Do that first” and walked away. Next came another man. He saw the boy and instantly jumped into the gutter. He brought the boy up, took him home,washed him and changed his clothes. Then he sat him in his drawing room and advised him.
The advice that the other two gave were sound counsel, but they did not help the boy. The third man saved him in his helpless condition and then advised him. This is what Jesus did to us. He came to this world and lifted us out of our filthy sins. Then He taught us the way of life. Good teaching cannot save man from sins. Only Jesus can.
