Satan’s Boomerangs!

(How Satan unwittingly helps us)

Satan has weapons of war to attack us. But he does not realize that his poisonous darts return to him with double vengeance. Whenever he sends a missile, God sends a scud missile to launch a quick counterattack so that satan’s missile falls on his own head. In an attempt to defeat us satan defeats his own purposes!

1. “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman: Has God indeed said, you shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Gen 3:1).

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise His heel” (Gen 3:15).

“And the God of peace will crush satan under your feet shortly” (Rom 16:20).

Satan made the first woman to sin and tried to thwart the plan of God. But through the woman Christ was born, who crushed the head of satan.

2. “Now satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel” (1 Chr 21:1).

“Now Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite” (2 Chr 3:1).

David repented of his numbering and sacrificed to God at the threshing floor of Ornan. It is here that Solomon built the temple of Jerusalem where innumerable people worshipped the living God and came to know of Jehovah.

3. So satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?” (Job 1:9).

“Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen and one thousand female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters” (Job 42:12,13).

Satan wanted to prove Job a fake and stripped him of all the blessings of God. But Job received a double portion of the blessings.

4. “Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and satan standing at his right hand to oppose him” (Zech 3:1).

“And the Angel of the Lord stood by” (Zech 3:5).

When Joshua the high priest was getting ready to serve in the temple of Jerusalem, which was being rebuilt by Zerubbabel and team, satan was at his right hand to oppose him. But the Angel of the Lord stood by. Where there is satan to oppose there is always an angel to stand by.

5. “And Jesus answered and said to him: Get behind me satan!  For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only” (Lk 4:8).

“ Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit” (Lk 4:14).

Satan tempted Jesus in an attempt to make Him sin. But when Jesus overcame the temptation, He was clothed with power.

6. “Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath? And when He said these things; all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitudes rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him” (Lk 13:16,17).

When satan taunts us with diseases and disabilities they turn out for the glory of God.

7. “And the Lord said: Simon, Simon! Indeed satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me,strengthen your brothers” (Lk 22:31,32).

Satan wanted to harass Peter to the core. But that only brought Peter closer to Jesus and all the weak brothers were made strong. Satan would have wished that he had left Peter alone because the ploy to weaken Peter only served to strengthen him and many others.

8. “Now after a piece of bread, satan entered him” (Jn 13:27).

Satan entered one of the apostles of Jesus and celebrated victory over the crucifixion of Jesus. The festivities were shortlived, for Jesus opened the grave and rose again on the third day. Satan hung his head in shame. The death and resurrection of Jesus brought salvation to entire mankind.

9. “Peter said: Ananias, why has satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?.... Then Ananias hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things...So great fear came upon all the Church and upon all who heard these things” (Acts 5:3,5,11).

Satan is the arch enemy of the Church. His attempt to use Ananias and Saphira to corrupt the clean Church resulted in cleansing of the Church.

10. “Deliver such a one to satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus” (1 Cor 5:5).

“Having faith and good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to satan that they may learn not to blaspheme” (1 Tim 1:19,20).

Whenever there were problematic persons in the church who were hard nuts for Paul to crack, he would say, “I am not competent enough to deal with these people. Let me hand them over to Mr. Satan who will do an excellent job.” When Paul’s teaching was not efficient enough for them to learn not to blaspheme, they were admitted to the school of Satan. Satan would then unwittingly thrash them black and blue that the sinner would repent and turn to God.

11. “Lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure” (2 Cor 12:7).

Paul was riding the wave of success. Everything he touched turned gold. He had abundant revelations. The jealous satan started pricking him like a thorn in the flesh constantly vexing him. Paul wished that one problem to  be removed from his body. But it was that messenger of satan that kept Paul humble under the mighty hand of God or else he would have become insufferably proud, a self appointed expert in missionary enterprise, intoxicated by power.

12. “We wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again— but satan hindered us... Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it good to be left in Athens alone, and sent Timothy, our brother... to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith” (1 Thess 2:18; 3:2).

Paul was an overenthusiastic man. He wanted to do everything himself. But when he just could not make it, he sent Timothy in his place. Thus the secondline leadership rose to the occassion. Satan served to produce more leaders.

Are you mauled by satan and bruised? Don’t worry. Run back to God. He will crush satan’s skull, and lift you up. For you it is only a bruise, praise God, but for satan it is utter annihilation. His weapons directed on us always boomerang and we can tell him, “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good” (Gen 50:20).
