Poovarasan was in 8th Standard. His Singapore uncle had presented him with a beautiful pen. That was lost. He strongly suspected Kumar and confronted him. But Kumar denied taking the pen. Poovarasan lifted his hand to hit Kumar. A hand from behind held his hand. It was Velan. “Wait” said Velan, “We will enquire into the matter.” “Shut up. Look at his eyes. He is the one. I know,” retorted Poovarasan. Velan pacified them and sent the seething Poo home.
The next evening Poovarasan came home late. Velan was coming out of his home and left quickly. “Amma, why did Velan come here? He must have complained about me,” said Poo. Amma showed his Singapore pen. “It was lying on the playground and Velan had given it to the P.T. Master. It seems he tried to tell you that but you were in no mood to listen. So he came home and gave it to me.”
He was happy for the pen but sad that he called Kumar a thief. “If I had listened to Velan this would not have happened,” worried Poo. He ran to Kumar and apologized.
We should never suspect people without proof and blame them. We must listen to people when they try to help us. Or else we may never know the truth.
