A rich man wanted to select a good, sensible wife for his hardworking son. So he dressed like a beggar and went and begged for alms in a house. “Amma, I am hungry and cold. Give me some food and clothes,” he begged. The girl who came out said, “I will give you some food. But I don’t have clothes for you.” She gave him some food. “This is not the right girl for my son,” he thought and walked to another house.
There a girl came out at his call and he repeated the same thing. “I don’t have food. But I can give my father’s old shirt,” she said and gave him a shirt. “This is not the type of girl I am looking for,” so he said and went to another house.
There also a girl appeared and he said the same thing. The girl said, “You are a healthy man. Why don’t you do something for a living? Hearafter don’t come here begging. Go, work in my garden. I will give you food and clothing,” she said strictly.
“This is the girl I was looking for. She knows the value of work and has a helping nature too. I will come to this house asking for her hand for my son,” said the man.
