A guru sat under a banyan tree and was teaching people good things. A naughty boy wanted to trap the guru in his conversation. He took a sparrow in his hand fully covered and asked the guru, “If you are such a sage, tell me if the bird in my hand is alive or dead.” He thought, if the guru said it was a dead one, he’d let the bird fly and prove him false. On the other hand if he said it was a live one, he’d squeeze the bird in his hand and show him the dead bird and put him to shame.
The guru said, “Whether the bird is alive or dead is in your hands. God bless you and may this bird receive kindness from you.” The boy was ashamed and let the bird fly.
To do good or harm to fellow human beings and creatures is in our hands. If we do good, God will bless us.
