Krishnaveni grandma came out of the house to draw water from the well and wash vessels. But the bucket at the end of the rope was nowhere to be found. Children hiding behind the tree giggled as they watched grandma go inside the house dejectedly with faltering steps, because she could not wash the vessels. The children had hidden the bucket. Praveen was the ringleader. Bharathi his sister was upset watching this crude fun. The next day as Praveen was ready to go to school, he shouted, “Where is my ID Card? I left it on the table.” He searched everywhere and began to cry because he would be made to stand outside the class. Bharathi handed over the ID Card to Praveen and said, “Now do you understand how that old lady would have felt?”
Evening when Praveen came home, Bharathi said, “Come, let’s have some fun.” She took Praveen to the granny’s house and said, “Now, watch the fun.” She started drawing water from the well and filled the tank. Then they hid behind the tree. As usual granny came to wash vessels. When she noticed the tank full of water, she beamed with joy and started washing the vessels, singing a song.
Praveen and Bharathi came home happy at the “fun time” they had.
