King Mahendran ruled Alagapuri. He fed thousand poor every day. He was very proud of his generosity. He heard that King Dharmendran was a compassionate king and wanted to show off his generosity to him.
Mahendran visited Dharmendran. As lunch was set before them. Mahendran said, “Have you fed at least some people today? I don’t have my lunch unless I feed at least thousand poor.” Dharmendran said, “How sad! Are there so many poor in your kingdom? Please take all the grains you want from me. It is hard to get poor people here. All are well placed in life in my kingdom.”
Mahendran was put to shame and learnt his lesson.
