Sunny Woman
Reading: Lk 1:77-80
“I am the light of the world, whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have light of life” (Jn 8:12). “You are the light of the world ... Let your light shine before others; that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Mt 5:14,16)
Who is a Sunny Woman? She is the light of the world who will lead others to glorify “her” Father, by her good works, just like Jesus who gave the light of life to people. Jesus is the true light (Jn 1:9). Anyone who follows Him will never walk in darkness. A Sunny Woman must be able to say that of herself just like Paul who said; Follow me. People are groping in darkness and we are to show them the way (Jn 11:9; 12:46).
Zechariah prophesied about his son John, “... to give His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace” (Lk 1:77-80). Jesus the Sun came to earth and accomplished His purposes. When He left He handed over the awesome responsibility of continuing His work to us. Jesus said, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (Jn 9:5). Then it is we!
So what do we do? Our people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hos 4:6). They go to temples, walk on fire, keep turmeric and kumkum on tree trunks and worship. They were brought up by their parents to believe in idols. They believe they will find salvation by sacrifice and torture of their bodies. Who will give them the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of sins and that by the mercy of God and not their own works?
About Jeus it was said, “People living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned” (Mt 4:16; Isa 9:2). The flame called Jesus has lit candles like us to continue His work. We have the torch, the truth in our hand. It is sin not to show people the way. Why should they live in the fear of death? Show them the way to life and peace. That responsibility rests on your shoulders.
Start with your neighbours. Pray for them, visit them, share God’s love with them and present them with a New Testament. Now go to the next house. Don’t expect a great miracle to happen but believe you are sowing seeds. Wait for the showers to come.
You can do more too, as we will see tomorrow.
