Precious Pearls!
Reading: Job 31:13-23
“There will always be poor people in the land” (Dt 15:11)
Here are some ways to love the poor —
1. Smile at the Precious Pearls. Talk to them respectfully, lovingly.
2. Ask their names and enquire about their family.Visit them.
3. Take extra packets for the poor while journeying.
4. Take some old and new clothes while traveling by car.
5. Lend cheerfully to the helpless.
6. Enquire about government schemes and bank loans for widows, women, old, girl children, jobless and tribes, and get them sanctioned.
7. Learn about Leprosy Homes, Old People Homes, Orphanages, Homes for the Differently Abled, Mentally Retarded, Deaf and Dumb, Blind School, etc., and help the poor for admission.
8. Educate poor students by paying their fees.
9. Take free tuitions for poor students. Teach the illiterate to read and write. You can even start regular classes in slums.
10. Adopt children and nurture them for God. Even those who have children can adopt.
11. Run a Destitute Home.
12. Pay a visit to Mother Teresa’s Home for the poor in Calcutta. Visit the nearest centre of the Missionaries of Charity.
13. Visit Government Hospitals and meet with patients. Give toys to children. Buy medicines.
14. Take the poor to the doctor for treatment.
15. Arrange marriages for widows and poor girls.
16. Adopt a very poor family in your neighbourhood and help.
17. Fight the causes and cases of the poor.
18. Conduct a Gospel program for mendicans at least once a year and give them a good meal.
19. Invite the poor for a meal on special occasions.
20. Make or buy plenty of sweets and savouries during festivals and give to all the poor who visit you.
21. Conduct a short Sunday Service for the beggars sitting outside the church.
22. Take a poor family out for a holiday.
23. Dedicate some of your garden products for the poor.
24. Ransack lofts, trunks, suitcases, safes, shelves and give away things you have not used for long.
25. Go singing Christmas Carols in slums and give Christmas greeting cards to the downtrodden.
