The greatest is Love!
Reading: Matthew 22:34-40
"Love your neighbour as yourself" (Mt 22:39)
9. "Love divinely" is the last but not the least of the principles of interpersonal relationships. Love like God. Love like Jesus. There is no situation or person beyond love. Mature and grow in love, then relating will be no problem. Are there some unloveables in your life? See them through God’s eyes and love will surge in your heart, for "the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit" (Rom 5:5). Love the irking neighbour’s child, the pestilent neighbour, the rival colleague, and so on. It was Stephen’s old associates and friends who stoned him for some difference of opinion. Yet he did not gnash his teeth at those who gnashed their teeth at him but told God with all his heart that they did it ignorantly and pleaded for their forgiveness. He must have learned from Jesus. That is divine love.
Divine love means sacrifice. God so loved the world that He gave (or gave up)! See to what extent Abraham goes to preserve unity. "Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brothers. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left." Discipline yourself to give up what may be rightfully yours and enjoy the blessings of God like Abraham.
In many areas of our life, say, between parents and children, husband and wife or office, when the love of power overpowers us,
we become powerless to manifest the power of love. When you can’t even love your family, friends and neighbours, where is the question of loving your enemies?
If you have problem loving anyone anytime turn to 1 Corinthians 13. It is the most excellent way. It is a ‘must have’ for anybody. Love is patient when children are growing up. It is kind to the unkind husband. It will exaggerate the other’s victories and downplay its own. It is polite. It will refuse to get angry. It does not bring up old matters to charge others. It feels sorry when something bad happens to anybody and happy when something good happens to anyone. It protects others, never lets its faith on others die, it keeps on hoping, and keeps on pushing forward. It never gives up on others. It is the same yesterday, today and forever. It never changes. It is dependable. It never dies.
Graduate in love. Then you’ll get the maximum benefit of interpersonal relationship. Love till it hurts!
