Touch Jesus!
Reading: Matthew 9:18-22; Mark 5:21-34; Luke 8:40-48
"Jesus said, ‘Someone touched Me; I know that power has gone out from Me’ " (Lk 8:46)
An unclean woman was there in the crowd. People who touched her would be defiled (Lev 15:19). So she needed to come
clandestinely, hiding her bashful disease. She was feeling guilty of defiling many. Bleeding for twelve years! All hope lost, all money gone, body weak and anaemic. She was suffering under doctors, drug effects, procedures, expenses, shame, hasstle!
Then she heard about Jesus. Immediately she packed her things for the journey. She wanted to be hidden and so she came behind Him. She thought, "If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed." She translated her thoughts into action. Faith is putting our thoughts to action. She was healed instantaneously. Physical healing is the privilege of children of God.
Jesus realized that power had gone out of Him. Many were literally falling on Him but His power did not go out from Him.
But power went out to this woman. The crowd did not expect it or thirsted for it. But this woman was believing and seeking. Only
the touch of faith will bring out the power from Him.
"Who touched My clothes?" asked Jesus. He wanted the woman to testify. She was trembling with fear but told Him (and the whole crowd) the whole truth. Jesus said, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace." A thirty year old unmarried man is calling this woman, who was probably forty or fifty, as His "daughter." Faith made her His daughter. "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid," said Jesus (Jn 14:27).
What a privilege it is to be the daughters of the great God and enjoy the peace He gives! Surprisingly this woman was the only
person whom Jesus addressed as daughter.
You may have problems which you cannot tell others. Come to Jesus and touch Him in faith. If you are afraid to give a public
testimony, He will pull you up. Receive the healing and peace that Jesus gives and go and proclaim the Good News to all. How many in the crowd believed on Jesus because of her testimony, we do not know. So be bold to testify to all.
