“The eye is the lamp of the body. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness” (Mt 6:22)
A few examples of women who were careless with their little eyes are Eve, Potiphar’s wife and Herodias. They all suffered for their carelessness. The immoral woman’s eyes rove for victims (Prov 7:15). “With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable ...” (2 Pet 2:14). It was when Jesus was delivering a sermon on this subject that He advised us to gouge out our eyes and throw them off, if they cause us to stumble, because they can land us in hell (Mt 5:29,30).
Nowadays pornography traps are sucking women into the depths of hell. Some enjoy the sins of their eyes while others are crying for deliverance. If you are caught in the trap, you will do well to meditate upon a man who had the same problem as yours, but won over it by making a covenant with his eyes (Job 31:1). Ruth did not run after young men even though as a young widow her sexual urge was compelling (Ruth 3:10). It is the fruit of the Spirit called self-control. God will never make us face temptations that are too strong for us. God also provides an escape door for us when we are tempted to look the wrong way (1 Cor 10:13).
The first escape door is to move away from the place. Though your feet may refuse to move, command them to move. Do not associate with friends who go the wrong way or watch porn. Refuse to open the computer for a week, let come what may. By one week’s time you will be more in control of yourself. Refuse to open porn sites. By chance if you err, punish yourself by refusing to open the computer for two weeks even though that may mean some loss of work. That’s the pulling out your right eye. Paul beat and disciplined his body so that he would not be disqualified for the prize (1 Cor 9:27).
Count on God’s grace. If you cooperate with the urgings of the Holy Spirit, His grace will be sufficient for you. You will soon take victory over your sin. “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to Your Word” (Psa 119:9). The Psalmist put this principle to practice. Come to verse 11: “I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” So meditate on God’s Word and victory will surely be yours.
