You have seen paper boats floating in a current. Sometimes you see small creatures helplessly dragged away by flood waters. Well, do you feel like one of them? For no fault of yours, you are tied up with somebody and dragged through mud and mire. May be Cain’s wife felt the same. She was the daughter of Adam and Eve, well taught about the Living God and Creator.
Married to her brother Cain, her life was as smooth as a mountain stream until her husband came home one day and asked her to pack up. They were leaving. He had killed her brother and brother-in-law Abel and God had banished him from His presence. She had all along known that her husband wasn’t that good, but never expected him to commit such a crime. Now she must share in his punishment. So started her nomadic life that became a turbulent river.
Many women live their life in tears because they said, “I will, till death do us part.” They are lost in a fog, lost in terrible, sad, thick molasses. They see no way out. They see no tomorrows. They are dragged along life whether they like it or not.
Take heart, God sees you not only as a family, but also as an individual. “Each of us will give an account of herself to God” (Rom 14:12). Nobody need to be ashamed of somebody else’s sin. You can still walk head high. Start building up your life with courage.
The orphan Esther grew up to be a beautiful girl. May be she was planning to marry a godly Jewish young man. One day soldiers came and whisked her away by order of the King and she became the wife of a much older man, who had a full harem for himself. Yet she was not heartbroken. She faced life without fear and fulfilled the purpose for which God brought her there.
Stop judging your spouse and concentrate on your life. You will find avenues open up before you. You will enjoy the sweet presence of God and hear His voice through His Word. Your life will be transformed. And who knows, your husband may be won over without words, by your behaviour! (1 Pet 3:1).
