“Counsel in the heart of a person is like deep water, but one who has insight draws them out” (Prov 20:5)
“Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance change ... let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation” (Dan 5:10). King Belshazzar’s knees were knocking and he was terrified to see the fingers write on the palace wall. When no one could tell him what to do, a woman stepped out with the right words of guidance. It was Mrs. Belshazzar. Even though her husband was a wicked and immoral man, his wife, I suppose, was influenced by Daniel’s life.
She knew Daniel and that he was Spirit-filled. She knew his God was a holy God. She was aware from her father-in-law’s time how Daniel had a special wisdom to know things. She had carefully f o ll o wed up D ani el ’s hi sto ry how her f a ther- i n-l a w, Ki ng Nebuchadnezzar, promoted him to a chief position. Probably or in all possibility she was a secret believer in Jehovah guided by Daniel.
“A word spoken in season, how good it is!” (Prov 15:23). She guided the king in the right way with her words of guidance. Her guidance was followed. You can see how the king repeats her words to Daniel showing how deeply he was influenced by her words. Daniel pointed out the king’s pride. Unfortunately, instead of immediate repentance, he stopped with honouring Daniel. If only he had taken the route pointed out by Daniel he might have escaped the disaster.
Women of faith should have the wisdom to give the right counsel to those who come to them. The world is in need of counsellors. Many are confused. Lives are lost to the spirit of suicide because we are short of hands to guide youngsters, adults and the old.
“In the multitude of counsellors there is safety” (Prov 11:14). Equip yourself with the Word of God. Trust in God to give you the r ig ht wo rd. Be pr ayer ful . Be l ov i ng a nd gentle wi thout a judgmental attitude. Show people the right way boldly. You will thus save many from making irreversible blunders in life.
“The pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice” (Prov 27:9).
