“Wisdom has built her house; she has set up her seven pillars” (Prov 9:1)
Wisdom is addressed in the feminine. So I suppose women have more claim to it! “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness” (Prov 31:26). Note here how wisdom follows the law of kindness. A wise woman will never degrade people while instructing them. Because of her kindness children get attached to her and give a listening ear to her instruction.
A woman known for her wisdom was Abigail. The gentle way in which she put forth her argument made David accept her advice. She did not put down David that his decision for war with her household was foolish but praised him saying, he fought the Lord’s battles and no wrong-doing would be found in him all his life. David was not made to feel inferior and so he was receptive to her counsel (1 Sam 25).
One more example is the wise woman of Tekoa (2 Sam 14:2). She was known for her wisdom. David’s first son, who ought to have become the king, was murdered by his third son Absalom who was the next prospective candidate. Both were lost for the king. While she put forward the parable to open the eyes of David she said that his wisdom was like that of an angel of God (2 Sam
14:20). That is wisdom. It doesn’t decimate others. She didn’t talk as if she knew better.
In 2 Sam 20:16-22 we read of another woman who “went in her wisdom” to all the people and accomplished the task. Wise people are not keen on exhibiting their wisdom but get the task done.
While dealing with our children or others, when we want to give them a counsel or instruction usually we give them the impression that we know better than them or belittle them. This very attitude puts them off and they turn a deaf ear to whatever we have to say because they are made to feel inferior. A humble suggestion without making them feel inferior is received well. First praise them, appreciate them and then put forth your suggestion as a “law of kindness.” You will witness a miracle.
