A Mistress decides!
Reading: Philemon 8-21
“Masters ... know that He who is both their Master and
yours is in heaven, and there is no favouritism with Him” (Eph 6:9)
1. I decide to always bear in mind that my Master is in Heaven. I will be an example to my subordinates in discipline and duties that I may exercise authority rightly over them.
2. I decide to be humble. I will always keep in mind I am what I am by the grace of God. I wil l not exalt myself before my subordinates or others. I will glorify God for my position.
3. I decide not be slack in extracting work from my subordinates. I will not be lenient but I will be considerate. I will not load them beyond their physical ability or mental capacity.
4. I decide to congratulate my subordinates where they deserve it. I will not take for myself the credit that belongs to them. I will identify their talents and do my best to develop and promote them. I will not hesitate to accept helpful suggestions from them.
5. I decide not to misuse my God-given authority like Athaliah (2 Ki 11:1). I will not use my subordinates for my own personal gain. I decide to be careful not to overstep my authority. I will not show partiality between my workers.
6. I decide not to be covetous. I will be generous with my income. I will liberally give to the poor. I will not withold anything that belongs to my helper or due to her. I will pay her justly and in time. I will not cheat her taking advantage of her illiteracy or ignorance.
7. I decide to be understanding towards my subordinates. When my helper falls sick I will not immediately conclude that she is acting, rather treat her with understanding and help her whatever way I can.
8. I decide to show concern for the spiritual wellbeing of my subordinates. I will exhibit the love of Christ in all my dealings with them. I decide to bring them to the saving knowledge of Christ.
9. I decide not to use violence on my helper for anything. I will not threaten her. I will respect her individuality and treat her like a helper and not like a slave like Naaman’s wife (2 Ki 5:2,3). I will not believe evil reports or rumours about her before taking necessary steps to confirm them. I will say ‘ Thank you’ now and then.
10. I decide not to covet another man’s helper. I will not tempt him or her by offering better conditions under me. I also decide not to criticise or judge another man’s helper.
