I am a Fat So!
Reading: Proverbs 23:1-3
“Give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread” (Prov 30:8)
Slimness adds to the beauty of a woman. It also adds to her health. Women desire to be thin but do not cooperate with their body to maintain ideal weight. The ideal weight of a 5-foot woman is 50 kg. Above that for every one inch you can add 2 kg. A 5’2” woman can be 54 kg. A few kilos this side or that side really doesn’t matter. Your waist (hip) should be 80 cm or less ideally.
If you are over-weight, aim to reduce one or two kilos a month, not more than that. First concentrate on increasing your exercise. Younger women should take up regular jogging, though it is not a taboo for older, healthier women. You can start some outdoor active games like tennis or shuttle cock. Reduce your TV time and make it a point to use the upstairs toilet. Walk wherever you can and reduce the use of your vehicle.
Diet is a key reason why the kilos slowly creep under your skin. It is very important to weigh yourself daily. So buy a weighing scale. Your first aim should be to maintain your present weight and never let it go up. Then start cutting down on calories. Choose your snacks. Instead of going for sweets and savouries, upping the risk of diabetes and obesity, turn to nuts and fruits. Cut down on oil and sugar intake. Reduce the carbohydrate in diet (rice, wheat, tubours) and increase protein (dal, chicken, beans, legumes, fish, etc).
Many times we think we eat very little and yet put on weight. It is a false belief. If you are putting on weight it is due to lack of exercise, overeating or oversleeping (unless there is some medical reason). Increase intake of fruits, vegetables and salads. Listen to your body. If you are hungry eat a moderate, sensible meal; don’t starve yourself.
With all this if you are not losing weight consult your doctor. He will rule out any metabolic causes of obesity. There are some tablets that can help you diet and bring down your weight, which he may prescribe. He can also give you a diet sheet.
More than anything, prayer helps. So start with prayer. Finally, if nothing helps, learn to love your fat self. It is better to be happy and healthy than to be thin and sick.
