Blusing Gone !
Reading: 1 Timothy 2:9-15
“I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety” (1 Tim 2:9)
Gone are the days of blushing. Nowadays most girls do not feel shy or try to cover up their shyness. They think it is backward to feel shy. They want to be (like) boys. They cut their hair short and wear pants and shirt and go out of the way to mix with the opposite sex.
Leave alone the Old Testament, the New Testament says, “I want women ... not primping before the mirror or chasing the latest fashions” (1 Tim 2:9 The Message Bible). The KJV uses the word “shamefacedness” here in this passage. In the metamorphosis of various translations the original meaning has become fuzzy. I suppose it is the ability to blush or feel shy.
Feeling shy is a beautiful feminine quality and adds to the beauty of a woman. Absence of shyness is not well spoken of in the Bible (Jer 3:3). It is the natural, intrinsic, feminine instinct. So don’t try to get over it. Abnormal shyness will curb your talents. But normal shyness will prevent you from crossing the boundary the Bible has drawn for women.
A girl came to me and said, “All my friends are freely talking to boys; but I feel shy. How can I overcome it?” I told her that there was no need to overcome. It is an admirable quality which would keep her safe in her relationship with men.
Shyness will keep you from dressing immodestly and putting yourself to shame in public. It will set the limits for you and you will be safe within those limits. So when you feel shy to do something, don’t push yourself to do it. “Women adorn themselves in modest apparel with shamefacedness and sobriety” (1 Tim 2:9
KJV). The brazen face is becoming increasingly common in the streets, universities and even schools (Prov 7:13).
Just because the world is changing, Christian women should not feel compelled to change their lifestyle. There is a Bible culture and we must stick to it. When Rebekah saw Isaac, she got down from her camel, took her veil and covered herself (Gen 24:64,65).
She is clothed with ... “dignity” (Prov 31:25).
