Am I a numskull?
Reading: Genesis 30:1-11
“Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master” (Mt 25:21)
The Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation” (Gen
7:1). God found Noah righteous, He spoke to Noah, He told Noah to
go into the ark with his family and God remembered Noah. “Where am I in the picture?” must have been the question of Mrs. Noah. I also have a name, I too lived a godly life, I certainly played my part well. Then why am I called “Noah’s wife” and why am I treated like a nobody?
This is the feeling many wives of ministers of God hide in their bosom. The pastor is invited, honoured, praised and people sometimes don’t even look at his wife’s face who is by his side. Many wives are looked upon as burdens if they go with their husbands.
If you are the wife of a minister of God and treated like trash, I want to encourage you today. God has called you by name (Isa 45:9). He knows your name. You are not a nobody to Him. You are His precious daughter. He has entrusted the care of His servant in your hands. As much as Mary was important to the upbringing of Jesus, so is your job honourable.
A servant of God needs nutritious food. So make cooking a pleasure. He needs good rest and time to prepare for his ministry; so relieve him wherever possible by taking extra load on you. He needs a good companion and friend to confide and unburden his heart. Be a friend who can listen, encourage and correct. He needs a wife for lifetime love and companionship. Be a pleasure and presentable person to live with. All the people blessed Boaz saying, “The Lord make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel” (Ruth 4:11). Had they forgotten Bilhah and Zilpah? May be. Yet their sons too will be seated on thrones, wearing crowns of gold, around the throne of God (Rev 4:4). God is not partial!
You may not be a Priscilla but be involved in God’s work as much as you can, in whatever way you can. There is no partiality with God. If God gives an M.Phil degree for your husband’s good ministry, He will give you a Ph.D. for being an excellent housewife, wife and mother. You don’t need to be a preacher. Do what God has called you to do, to the best of your ability.
