Our mind is a round-the-clock workshop. It generates myriads of thoughts during the day and dreams during the night. Can this busy workshop be left unattended? Should we not care that our workshop puts out useful, durable items that people love and that benefit us? Untoward products will only boomerang on us.
Michal was a queen with unbridled thoughts (2 Sam 6:16; 1 Chr 15:29). When she saw her husband King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart. She let it brew there. She had enough time to talk to herself and control her tongue. She could have rebuked the thought but was in a hurry to spill it out. She went out to meet David and spewed out the venom. If she had recognized it as an evil thought she could have rebuked the thought saying, “It is for God he is dancing.”
Jesus said, Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts and they defile a person (Mt 15:18,19). Note that these defile a person only when they come out. There is a long distance between the heart and the mouth where all these things can be stopped on the track by an alert and godly person. If they can be tackled at the heart level they can be buried there or converted to good. The diffe- rence between a good woman and bad woman starts in the heart.
David would not have been able to forget this mockery all his life. It would have been extremely difficult for him to forgive and ma ke up with her. Think of tha t night — al l exhi lar ati on extinguished. David must have felt lonely and sore. The wife who ought to have appreciated and praised her husband for his love for the Lord had thrown mud on his face. Of all the good things that happened that day, she picked up this one thing to humiliate him.
Think right, speak right, walk right! God punished Michal with barrenness, so she coul d not bec ome the queen mo ther or foremother of Jesus. Her seat was given to Bathsheba, the most unlikely person of our choice but the choice of our gracious Lord (2 Sam 6:23).
Watch your thoughts, they become WORDS; Watch your words, they become ACTIONS; Watch your actions, they become HABITS; Watch your habits, they become CHARACTER.
