Son or Daughter?
Reading: Galatians 3:23-29
“There is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ”
(Gal 3:28)
In India girls are treated as second class citizens. In many places a wife is put away if the first child she bears is a girl. Girl babies are killed or thrown away or treated with contempt at home among some communities. Boys get preference in nutrition, education and property. Sometimes girl children are tortured or sold. This pagan view is deeply ingrained in Christian minds too. A lady told me, “We prayed so hard and God blessed us with a boy baby.” I replied, “Is that so? We prayed harder and the Lord blessed us with a girl baby.”
First of all, girls must learn to walk head high. They should never feel inferior. God created male and female. You must educate yourself and lead an honourable life. You don’t need to become a feminist but fit into the role God has created for you. That’s the best way to prove your worth. When you are treated unfairly, I mean, if boys are preferred and you are sidelined, do not get hurt or fight. Trust in God to honour you. But make sure not to do it yourself — Always treat boys and girls equally.
When you marry and have a girl child, celebrate the occasion. If you have two girl children don’t be pressurized to have a third child unless you plan for a bigger family. Treat them, feed them and educate them without partiality. Divide your properties equally between male and female children.
Never make derogatory remarks about your girl children because they are female. Many mothers, without thinking, lament to others how they are going to manage dowry for their daughters. In other words, you convey the message to your daughter that she is a burden to you. When you divide your property equally, where is the question of dowry?
Jesus chose His apostles all male, not because He preferred males but because He was a young man and had to be very close to the twelve. Also He knew where women would shine best in His ministry. Apostle means “messenger” and the first messengers after His resurrection were women!
In the Rapture all ‘men’ are going to become the ‘bride.’ Okay?
