Daughter, do not falter!
Reading: Isaiah 8:18; 3:16
“A wise daughter brings joy to her father
but a foolish daughter brings grief to her mother” (Prov 10:1)
When you touch ten or eleven and when hormones surge into your blood, it is very easy to lose your senses and behave foolish. God has given you parents so that you will be guided safely through life. The Bible admonishes you to bind their teachings always to your heart. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you, for this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light (Prov 6:20-23). Do you see how important your parents’ instructions are? Never treat them lightly. Lois walked in her mother Eunice’s footsteps (2 Tim 1:5).
When convictions clash it is very easy to despise your parents (Prov 15:20; 30:11). I have seen daughters shout at their parents and heard of them beating too, calling them names. You must never do such things to your parents. “If someone curses their father or mother, their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness” (Prov 20:20). You will wander without direction in life. Especially when they become old, they may be troublesome and a burden to you. Recall to memory how they cherished you and brought you up and treat them with gentleness and respect (Prov 23:22).
The punishment for treating parents scornfully is terrible. “The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures” (Prov 30:17). Your parents may be uneducated or less educated than you. You may be physically stronger than them. You may be too busy with your projects to tend to them. But these are no excuses for you to treat them shabbily. Do you know why your parents beat you or scold you? So that you will be a wise daughter. If you are wise today, thank your parents for using the rod (Prov 29:15).
When parents are at the mercy of their children, their properties are stolen by children by changing it to their name and forcing or threatening their parents to sign. It can also be done by bribing. Sometimes parents are driven out by children (Prov 19:26; 28:24). Don’t think God will wink at it. He will punish you in due time. Never drag your parents to the court.
“May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful” like Lois,mother of Timothy (2 Tim 1:5).
