Dunno what to do?
Reading: 2 Chronicles 20:12-22
“Our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power to face
this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do,
but our eyes are on You” (2 Chr 20:12)
Women often face this situation in life. Hagar didn’t know what to do; she just sat there and sobbed (Gen 21:16). Job’s wife was confused at the collapse of her life. What should she do when all is lost? It is not uncommon for women to face hard situations in life that leaves them confused and frightened. Half the time they make wrong decisions, complicating the situation further. Let’s see what we can do in such situations.
The first step is not to do anything. Many women become emotional, frightened or angry and do something unwise and later regret their action. That’s what Sarah did. “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly” (Prov 14:29). Hasty feet misses the way. This happens all too often in our life and often we get caught in tight spots from which we cannot go back.
God’s counsel to us is, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psa 46:10). How difficult it is to keep still! It is harder than manual labour. Yet it is a Christian discipline to remain still till God works on our behalf. This is what Jehoshaphat did when he was confused, frightened and powerless against a powerful army.
Listen to God’s answer; “Do not be afraid or discouraged ... The battle is not yours but God’s ... You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you ... Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (2 Chr 20:15-17).
This does not mean you will have to do nothing. Jehosphaphat had to get the army ready and go for battle. Deliverance came from the Lord (Prov 21:31). When you are emotionally stable, plan and consult your husband or any trustworthy person who can help you. You can also seek the help of a counselor.
Finally, proceed cautiously, wisely, rightly. Be careful not to do anything which is outrightly wrong or against the teachings of the Bible. If you are strongly founded on the Word of God the chances of you making a big mistake in life are as good as nil.
