Snake-Dove!
Reading: James 3:13-18
“Love is patient” (1 Cor 13:4)
Many wives go mad because they are constantly being suspected by their husbands. Relax. You can take some preventive measures to avoid the pitfall. If your husband views your friendship with a member of the opposite sex suspiciously, if he is jealous over it, sacrifice the relationship. Even if it is as dear as your right eye, pull it out. The most important person in the whole world is your husband. Do not argue. Whether it is a platonic relationship or otherwise, be done with it. No explanation is necessary for the other party. Never touch anyone inappropriately. That can keep you off a lot of trouble. Rizpah’s relationship with Abner tarnished his image (2 Sam 3:7,8).
The serpent’s wisdom is cunningness. “But the wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere” (Js 3:17). Practise this wisdom in your life. Let purity be your first priority. Maintain peace with your husband at any cost. Be considerate to him in all areas of life. Let your submission speak to him loudly. Treat him as you would like him to treat you.
First: Pray for this heavenly wisdom everyday. The Bible speaks about “sound mind” (NKJV) for women. Study it and put it to practice. Never get discouraged. Your family is not just your concern, it’s God’s concern too. Be encouraged, God is in control.
Second: Read your Bible and obey it. It is God’s wisdom. The more you read your Bible the wiser you become. Sometimes you may feel the Bible has no answer for your problem. You may feel you don’t hear God’s voice. Still keep at it. In God’s own time you will understand what is happening to you.
Third: Learn from experience. Experience is the greatest teacher. We learn from it and become teachers. In 2 Timothy 1:7 the “spirit” mentioned is not the Holy Spirit but our spirit because the ‘s’ is not capital. “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV). So, be assertive without fear; be assertive with love and not arrogantly; be assertive with backbone not weakly; be assertive with clean thinking, knowing the will of God in that matter and not in a confused state.
“Lord, make me as shrewd as a snake and as innocent as a dove. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
