Not intelligent?
Reading: Matthew 25:14-30
“To one he gave five talents, to another two,
and to another one, to each according to his own ability” (Mt 25:15)
Nowadays children are under pressure to perform. They feel the tension in school and home. The school wants 100% results and parents want their children to become doctors and engineers. Children are caught between the two. If you are bright and intelligent you are patted and honoured. If not?
This is the lot of many students. Though a few sail to success and limelight the majority are mediocre. Teachers want them to sign up to tuitions and parents pressurize them to burn the midnight oil. Children have no time to be themselves, to play hide-and-seek. The result is discouragement, inferiority complex, shame, fear, psychosomatic illnesses, suicidal tendencies and depression.
Read the parable of talents in Matthew 25:14-30. The man gave his servants “each according to his ability.” Each was supposed to use what was entrusted to him, not more than that. “After a long time the master returned and settled accounts.” All that was required of the single-talented man was one more talent, not three or five. But the lazy man was not willing to put forth even that much effort. That’s why he was punished.
Do not succumb to the pressure and take extreme steps. Teachers and parents may scold you or punish you. You will feel terrible. But believe in yourself. God will require results from you not today or tomorrow but after a ‘long time.’ You have time to develop yourself. All need not become doctors and engineers. All need not do Ph.D. or I.A.S. There are so many choices for you.
Analyse yourself and see where you shine or where your interest lies. Talk to your teacher or Headmistress and parents and explain to them your disposition. You should not be lazy. You should be studious and hardworking. A failure in exam does not mean you have failed in life. God looks at you from a different angle. He wants you to accomplish His will for your life, that’s all. So try to find out how God wants you to use your life.
You must make use of the opportunities that come your way and do “your” best. Life is a slow process. It takes a long time for you to achieve something and be proud of yourself. So hang on till then!
