Show me the Way, please!
Reading: Esther 2:19,20; 9:29-32
“Ruth told Naomi everything” (Ruth 3:16)
When news reached me that a young mother of two small kids committed suicide, I was broken. Why did she have to do that when help was at hand? She could have confided in a friend, a neighbour, her pastor or in the worst case to the women police or social worker. A life was lost forever.
May be you are going through troubled waters, confused and hurt. If you can open up to your parents, please do that. If not, confide to a caring teacher. You may talk to your pastor’s wife or a spiritually mature lady. There are many ways to get help. Ruth found one in her mother-in-law Naomi. She walked the path her mother-in-law showed and came out of her crisis to find peace in life.
God is not uncaring. He knows what you are going through. It is not a shame to ask for help. Everybody needs help. So instead of struggling and suffocating with your inner turmoil find someone to whom you can confide. Get help. You need guidance at all stages in life. Even though you may not be facing a crisis, you need someone to show you the right path at every turn of life.
Young girls need to know how to handle their emotions, how to adjust to their parents, how to guard their purity, how to find their life partner, how to pray, how to read the Bible and an umpteen number of things. Young wives need guidance in their family life. Life will not be what they expect it to be. It could be confusing and fearful. She needs guidance for her sexual life, pregnancy, childbirth, child-rearing, adjusting with in-laws, etc. Don’t become desperate or give up on life. There is help at hand.
Psalm 119:24 reads as follows: “Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.” Look for answer to your problem in the Word of God and prayer. “In the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Prov 11:14). God Himself is your Counsellor (Isa 9:6). If you still grope in the dark, find a shoulder to cry on. You need a mentor all your life. That is your safety. Discuss your problems with her and clarify your doubts. Friends of your age are sailing the same boat and cannot help you. So have a senior lady as your close confidant and mentor. Listen to your mentor, listen to counsellors; then the end will be peace and joy.
