Uncertainty of Certainty
Reading: 1 Samuel 30:1-6
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”
(Heb 13:8)
Whenever we used to go for ministry among non-Christians, my heart used to be full of fear and uncertainty. “What will happen today? Will people listen to us? Will some bad elements come and drive us out?” One day God reminded me that whatever uncertainty may loom large over my head, one thing was absolutely certain: His presence. When I realized that Jesus always comes with us as the Captain of the army, my heart was strengthened. It trembled no more.
Life is full of uncertainties. We hate uncertainties. We would like to know how things would turn out to be. Do you think Deborah went to battle rejoicing? I don’t think so. She came back rejoicing and singing. But when she went with the army her heart must have been crying to God, “Lord, I’m a woman, I am weak. I have no strength to fight. The enemy has iron chariots but we don’t have any. Please help us. I am afraid. Please give me faith. Please go with us ...” and so on and so forth. Uncertainty was hanging over her head like a black cloud. But God proved to be faithful to her. He was trustworthy. He went with their army and annihilated the enemy and brought them back victoriously.
When you face precarious situations in life, be certain that God is certain. He is someone you can trust. Leave the outcome in His hands and be relaxed. Do not run about here and there to influence people. Keep singing, “Trust in the Lord and don’t despair; He is a friend so true.” The Psalmist testified, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” (Psa 118:8).
God’s frequent question to us is, “Where is your faith?” He has said that He will never leave us nor forsake us. His presence will go before us. Never get disheartened at uncertainties. Our God is a certain God. “In quietness and confidence shall be your strength” (Isa 30:15). The bigger we see God, the greater will be our faith.
“The Father ... does not change like shifting shadows” (Js 1:17). He is certain. He is a rock and will always be there for us. Never let the certainty of God’s presence become uncertain in your mind.
