Snake in the garden!
Reading: Jude 4-12
“In the place of righteousness, iniquity was there” (Eccl 3:16b)
A wicked woman gets converted. She is exhilarated and starts her Christian life in full swing. But she is shocked to see sin in the holy place. Where she expected to find saints, she found sinners. Christians lied, cheated and committed all sins. She staggers till she reads the Bible and steadies herself.
“I saw the wicked buried — those who used to come and go from the holy place and receive praise in the city where they did this” (Eccl 8:10a). They not only regularly visited the holy place but were quite popular in the congregation.
God created a beautiful garden called Eden but there was a snake, openly going about and talking to Eve. The situation is the same today in the congregation of saints. “Certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you ... Those people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm” (Jude 4-12). See how dangerously they are close to us. They are the weeds. The Son of Man has permitted the weeds to grow alongside the wheat till the harvest (1 Sam 4:4; Mt 13:24-30). Women served at the door of the Tabernacle of Meeting (Ex 38:8). By and by they fell for the overtures of the priests and committed adultery with them (1 Sam 2:22). There are many, many Biblical examples to warn us of unholiness in the holy place like Jesus cleansing the Temple.
This is reality, but be careful not to be drawn into the net of the wicked people. Pray for them but keep away from them. Take care of yourself. More than 99% of the Israelites who started from Egypt fell in sin. So the Apostle Paul warns us: “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall” (1 Cor 10:12). We will be assaulted from all sides to bow down and worship the devil. Dig in your heels. If you fall in sin, do not be discouraged. “Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again” (Prov 24:16). You are not defeated until you give up and refuse to get up. So up, lift up your flag and tell the devil you are up.
“Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy” (Rev 22:11). We must always be aware that we are living among a corrupt generation, and save ourselves from it (Acts 2:40).
