Golden Girl
Reading: Revelation 3:17-21
“You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.
But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind
and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire”
(Rev 3:17,18)
What is the gold that God gives?
1. His Word: “They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold” (Psa 19:10; 119:72,127). Any woman revelling in the Word of God will turn into a Golden Girl. See the inner cleansing it does — soul (Psa 19:7), heart (v8), warning (v11), errors and hidden faults (v12) and willful sins (13). When we know it is wrong and yet do it, it is willful sin. Just reading the Bible is not enough. We must learn to discern our own errors and practise the Word (v12).
2. Prayer: Our privilege which no other religion enjoys is talking to the God of the universe. What happens to our prayers? They are safe in golden bowls. “Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people” (Rev 5:8; 8:3). Realize that God is enjoying the fragrance of your prayers.
3. Wisdom: God gives us wisdom through His word (Psa 19:7). He has told us to ask for wisdom (Js 1:5,6). But like Solomon, even if we are woken up in the night and asked what we want, our answer without thinking must be ‘wisdom.’ Its fruit is better that fine gold (Prov 8:19; Job 28:15). A woman without wisdom is a gold ring in a pig’s snout (Prov 11:22).
4. Lips: “Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel” (Prov 20:15). “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear” (Prov 25:11,12). Women who talk a lot need to talk with golden lips.
5. Good Testimony: “A good name is more desirable ... than silver or gold” (Prov 22:1). Women lose their good name often because of their sins of mouth or sexual sins. Let us take care to develop a gentle and quiet spirit rather than earn a good name by our gold jewels (1 Pet 3:3-5).
With these we can sit with God on His throne, not just stand! (Rev 3:21).
Tomorrow we will see how we can become pure gold.
