Christmas is here!
Reading: Luke 1:29-38
“She gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger,
because there was no room for them in the inn” (Lk 2:7)
A woman’s life is more of questions than of answers. All her questions are not answered. But she survives in spite of unanswered questions. Let’s see five questions from the Christmas happenings:
1. “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years?” (Lk 1:18).
Zechariah was righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. Yet, when taken by surprise his faith faltered. This was displeasing to the Lord. We too sadden the heart of God by our lack of faith. Faith is not just believing for miracles. Faith is casting ourselves completely on the Lord, whatever turn life may take.
2. “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” (Lk 1:34).
This was not a question of unbelief. Mary just wanted to know God’s modus operandi. How could such a young, tender girl just like that accept a proposal like bearing a child? The angel knew her fear and started off with, “The Lord is with you” (v28). Whatever responsibility the Lord lays on your shoulder, remember, ‘The Lord is with you.”
3. “Why am I so favoured?”
Mary did not consider herself superior to any girl of her time. That God chose her came as a surprise to her. Keep yourself humble under God’s hand. If you are favoured, it is grace and grace alone (Dt 7:7,8).
4. “What then is this child going to be?” (Lk 1:66).
When a child is a baby our thoughts about her are rosy. When they become teenagers they turn black. Keep your thoughts rosy. As you were tender to the baby, continue tenderness and expressive love to the teenager with good doses of appreciation. Cut down negative remarks and punishments. Wait for the miracle to unfold.
5. “Where is the One who has been born king of the Jews?” (Mt 2:2).
Even the Jews were not waiting for the Messiah so eagerly. But the non-Jewish wisemen were observing the sky so intently that they spotted “His star.” They took every effort to see the Messiah, not for His blessings but to worship Him. Seek and you shall find.
