A tall tree beautifully swayed in the wind. It looked at the grass and said, “I am sorry for you. People trample on you. Anybody can crush you. I am so strong and mighty. Nobody can walk on me.”
The grass felt shy to stand beside the giant tree. The wind started to blow. It became a storm which violently swept across the area. The mighty tree was uprooted. It lay there helplessly lamenting its fate. The grass swayed in the wind. People ran over it to escape the storm. The grass lay down flat on the ground and thought, “I am finished.”
The storm calmed down. The grass opened its eyes. There was water all around. It drank the water and felt stronger. The sun shone. The grass slowly stood up. It felt stronger than before.
Alas! The grass saw the mighty tree fallen down and felt sorry for its friend. It was blocking the way and some men came and sawed it off to pieces and carried it away. People sat on the grass and enjoyed picnics. The grass was happy to be useful, though insignificant.
This world is cruel. People will constantly hit you on your head and put you down in various ways. The storms of life will bulldoze you to the ground. But you must never lose heart. God will give you good friends like sunshine and rain. You must pick up courage, pick yourself up and stand up. God will make you an useful vessel.
