A king was fond of jars. He collected exotic jars from many places and put them up for show in his palace. One day the man, who cleaned the jars daily, dropped a jar and it broke to pieces. The king was filled with wrath and ordered that the man be hanged the next day. The whole country mourned for the king’s reckless decision.
There was a wise man in the country. When he heard about this he quickly came to the king. He promised to repair the broken jar with no trace of the accident. The king was delighted and took him to the jars. With one sweep of his hand the wise man pushed all the jars to the ground and broke them to smithereens. The king was shocked at the audacity of the man and demanded an explanation.
The man said, “When each jar is broken, one life will be lost. You had so many jars and so many may lose their lives. Now, only I will lose my life; all others of your subjects are safe.”
The king realized his folly and withdrew his command to hang the man. He kept the wise man with him as his counsellor.
Anger makes you unwise.
