One day Thomas Alva Edison came home from school and gave a letter to his mother saying that his teacher wanted him to give the letter only to his mother.
His mother read the letter silently and read it out to her son as follows, with tears: “Our school is too small for your son’s excellent intelligence. We do not have teachers smart enough to teach him. So it is better that you teach your son yourself.”
After that his mother taught him whatever she knew and also bought him old books to read.
After many years his mother died. Edison became a famous Research Scholar and Scientist of that century. One day while cleaning his house he came across the letter that he brought home to his mother from school. In it was written as follows:
“Please do not send your son to our school because he is mentally retarded. Our school may lose its rank because of your son. Better you teach him at home.” On reading the letter, Edison wept. He wrote down the following lines in his diary -
“The mentally retarded Thomas Alva Edison became a Research Scholar and Scientist only because of his mother.”
Be self-confident. Do not let this world push you into mud and mire by its own opinion of you.
