When their father died, Murugan and Muthu decided to take care of the 200 coconut trees in their land together and harvest the coconuts. There were 1000 coconuts and each got 500.
Murugan told Muthu to go home and take rest while he guarded the coconuts. He told Muthu to take care during the night and he took care of the coconuts the whole day.
Night came. Murugan quickly took 50 of his coconuts and put them in Muthu’s heap. “My brother has more children and he needs them,” he told himself. When Muthu came Murugan left for his home.
“My brother took care of me like my father and I should honour him,” said Muthu and trans- ferred 50 of his coconuts to his brother’s share. The next day Murugan came with a tractor to take his coconuts to the market. When he counted and loaded them, there were 500. Murugan was not aware of what had happened. He thought, “I don’t lose anything by giving.”
Truly we don’t lose anything by giving!
