Silky and her Kittens

Silky was a ten year old girl who had a cat named Rinky. Rinky gave birth to three kittens which Silky named as A,B and C. Silky’s parents were not happy to have the kittens and wanted to leave them far away from home. When they noticed Silky’s concern they said, “You pray that God will take care of them.”

Even though Silky had been taught a lot about God by her parents, she always had gnawing questions like, “Where is God? Why cant’t I see Him? Why doesn’t He answer all my prayers?” These questions surfaced again.

So, after a prayer, the family took the three kittens and left them near a village, a long distance away from their home. “A” had a black patch on its nose. “B” had a white spot on its chest and “C” had black patches over the eyes.

When they were left alone they cried very much. Then they decided to pray as they always heard in Silky’s house. “Dear Lord,” they prayed, “please keep mama safe and keep us safe.” They saw some boys coming towards them. One boy by name Ravi picked up  “A” and said: “It’s beautiful. I am taking it to my home,” and walked away.

Buses, lorries and cars were speeding in the highway and the two kittens were frightened and ran into the forest. They walked and walked till they became tired. They saw a hunter coming by. Vedan picked up “B” and took it to his house. “C” was terrified
to be alone. Being very tired it fell asleep under a tree. There came a king with his hunting team. Seeing “C” he exclaimed, “My daughter was asking for a kitten. She will be happy to see this fellow.” So he took “C” to his palace.

“C” grew up in the palace as a playmate for Riya. “C” used to think about “A” and “B.” It grew up into a majestic cat. Riya also grew up and the king was on the lookout for a suitable groom for her. He announced that anybody who showed their skills with
their bow and arrow could marry his daughter. Many came and exhibited their skills.

Ravi also grew up and became an expert archer. He heard of the king’s announcement and wanted to show his performance. He split an apple in mid-air into two by his shot. He shot an apple kept on somebody’s head. He cut a thread held in front of a
soldier’s face into two without harming him. The king was overjoyed and the wedding date was fixed.

Ravi had only one request to make. “I have a very dear friend and he must live with me,” he said. The king nodded his head. Riya laughed when she saw Ravi coming with his friend, a cat. “A” recognised “C” and they hugged each other.

The great wedding was meticulously planned. The king wanted a different meal — not chicken or mutton or fish. One minister got up and said, “Why not hunt meat? Everybody will like it.” “Excellent idea,” said the king and sent his soldiers to find the
best of hunters. So Vedan was brought to his presence. Vedan promised to bring hunt meat for the marriage banquet.

The bride and groom marched along, greeting the guests, with “A” and “C” along their sides. There was Vedan seated along with the guests and his pet cat eating from his plate. When “A” and “C” saw “B” they jumped up and down with glee.

The story is not over yet. The entire city joined the marriage feast of three days. So down the aisle sat Silky and her family along with Rinky. They floated in the clouds to see A, B and C. The king was very generous and gave a quarters for them to live
inside his premises. Vedan joined the hunting team of the king and was given a quarters too. So they all lived together happily. This is an old story. Nowadays hunting is not good.

Silky learned that God does answer prayers!
