Naduk went on a long business trip. He sold off all his possessions to clear his debts and went in search of fortune. All he was left with was an iron rod. He left the rod with his friend Lakshman for safe keeping. After a long, long time Naduk returned a rich man.
He asked Lakshman for the iron rod. Lakshman had no mind to return it since he knew it would fetch him good money. So he told Naduk that mice ate away the iron rod. Naduk kept his cool and asked Lakshman to send his son with him and collect the gifts he
had brought for Lakshman. So Lakshman sent his son. Naduk locked the boy up in a room.
When his son did not return, Lakshman came in search of him. Naduk said that while returning, an eagle carried him away. Lakshman grew angry and shouted, “Do you want me to believe that an eagle flew off with a fifteen year old boy?” “Well, if mice can eat iron an eagle can carry a teenager too,” replied Naduk. Lakshman returned the iron rod and got his boy back.
