“Ah ha! Mala, is that your wedding invitation?”
Mala was all smiles, as she got out of the car in a beautiful silk saree, clutching a bundle of cards.
“Sorry I couldn’t let you know earlier. It all happened so suddenly.”
“Who’s the poor fellow who fell in your trap Malu? Let’s have a look at his photograph.”
She opened her handbag and took out his photograph carefully out of a polythene cover.
“Dear, he looks so familiar. Didn’t he play the guitar at the Revival Crusade?”
“Urn”
“Did he share his testimony one day?”
“Yep, I shared mine on the second day, he on the third.”
“Um... the secret is trickling out. Hurray! He has dedicated himself to be a missionary- Am I right?”
“Right, right.”
“Isn’t he an M.A.?”
“Um, yes.”
“A big catch indeed Mal. How d’you throw the line?”
“I didn’t throw the line. In fact I was hooked.”
“Unbelievable!”
“You unbeliever! His father was there at the meeting. He happened to be a classmate of my dad. He came home to see my dad.”
“Then?”
“Then what?... That’s all.”
“Super ya! We mustn’t fall in love. Love must fall on us. God bless you.”
“This is not falling in love.”
“Well, call it by any name you like.”
The bridal couple walked down the aisle hand-in-hand. I was sitting close to the aisle, so I could have a good look. Mala was walking with downcast eyes, but when she came near me, her eyelids fluttered up for a wee moment and our eyes met. A thousand tales lay hidden in that brief gaze.
