Benita was five years old and her mother was in a wheelchair. Her mother loved to watch flowers blooming. Their house was on top of a hill. “Mummy, I’ll plant lilies for you all over the hillside so you can watch them and smile” said little Benita. “You are so small darling. How can you do that?” asked her mother. “Wait and watch” said Benita.
Everyday Benita would come back from school and plant a lily bulb. Then she would play and do her homework. By the end of one month there were 30 lily plants. By the end of the year there were 365 plants. Benita would push her mother around the garden and make her smile. When Benita was 15 years old, there were 3650 lily plants in full bloom. Benita grew up and married and took care of her mother in the same house with her family. She continued to plant lilies. The hillside was covered with various colors of lilies. People traveling along the road stopped to take photographs.
One day a traveler climbed up the hill and asked Benita, “How did you do such a great task all alone?” Benita replied humbly, “It is not a great task. It is only one bulb a day.”
Our life can be as beautiful as these lilies if we live our life beautiful each day! Great tasks, if done in stages become simple and easy.
