A woman should not cling on to her dreams. To some, it is alright and good. But for others, it has to change to fall in pattern with her husband’s. God will make it better if we go behind Him in the path He leads, though we ourselves would have chosen another path.
I wanted to be a missionary doctor and serve and die in a God- forsaken place. Since my husband is a Bible teacher, I couldn’t be so. God thrust a pen in my hand and said, “Write.” I said, “Lord, but I wanna go to the slums.” Kicking and crying I started to write. God literally dragged me by the collar and made me sit in a chair and prepared a table before me in the wilderness, to write. Now, wherever I go, people say, “Sister, you don’t do. You write and we’ll do.” O, praise the Lord! I asked for hands He gave me the pen. I asked for feet, He gave me wings. Be assured, when you cannot do anything about the situation, God is using it. Paul would have felt desperate in prison. But God made him write. God raised others in his stead. Be ready to die to your dreams, and then your dreams will take to the skies.
Mary was engaged. That means, her dream of becoming the mother of the Messiah (as every Jewish virgin belonging to the tribe of Judah did) was not to be realized. She would soon be no more a virgin. But God intervened in that short time. We may have many holy dreams and think, “Well, they are not going to be realised.” But God can fulfil our dreams anytime. God sent the angel to Mary after her engagement, not before that, why? The baby Messiah needed to be protected by a marriage in the eyes of the world. It was better to be known as the son of a carpenter than the son of a harlot.
God has reasons to postpone or cancel our dreams. He knows best and His ways are definitely higher than ours. If Priscilla had continued in Rome, she would have lived and died as a tent-maker. She left her dream home behind because of persecution and became an evangelist. She became a close associate of Paul. Paul and “all” the Churches of the Gentiles were thankful to her (Rom 16:3). She found a prestigious place in the Book of books. She has become a world figure and so many namesakes have sprung up all over the world!
