"There will be ... pestilences ...” (Mt 24:7)
Looks like we are living in the last days. One of the deadly pestilences we are facing is cancer. It strikes at the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time and age. It will be good to go on red alert if you notice any of the following easy-to- ignore cancer signs —
a) Unintentional weight loss, (b) Unexplained fatigue, (c) Un-explained bleeding, (d) Pain, (e) Non-healing ulcers, (f) Growing mole, (g) Nagging cough, (h) Bowel or bladder changes, (i) Frequent fevers or infections, (j) Painless or painful lumps.
If you notice any of the above or anything you suspect to be cancer, go to the doctor. It is better for the doctor to give you a clean chit than to postpone a visit to the doctor to your own injury. If the doctor, after doing tests, pronounces cancer, you may be angry, confused and terrified. Cool down and talk to God. It is not a death sentence. Many have survived cancer. So make a decision not to lie down and die but have a will to survive. Never let the cancer throttle you. The trick is in going to the doctor at the earliest. Going late makes things difficult for you and the doctor. Go to a reliable doctor or hospital. You can also get a second opinion. Go by the doctor’s advice.
Prevention is always better than cure. Learn some healthy habits that can keep you safe from cancer. It is a well-known fact that having babies and breastfeeding them lessens your chances of getting breast cancer. Say ‘no’ to tobacco in all forms including secondary smoke. Don’t feel impolite to get up and walk away when somebody lights a cigarette. Load up on fruits and vegetables. They are rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants. Choose fresh ones. Try to buy daily than loading your fridge.
Staying physically active is a well-known elixir. For those whose work is sedentary, a good principle to follow is to walk five minutes for every hour you sit. Keep playing outdoor games as long as possible. Overweight is a big risk factor for several cancers. Don’t forget water. It helps clean your system. Drink 3-5 litres of water per day depending upon the climate.
Don’t fail to claim God’s promise that He is the Lord who heals you. When we pray, whether He heals or not, we know, whether life or death, we are in God’s will.
