Bend your knees!

Reading: 1 Kings 18:41-46

“Truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything

they ask for, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

For where two or three gather in My name, there am I with them”

(Mt 18:19,20)

Let us polish our prayer life till we become prayer warriors —

  1. Does your active participation in prayer depend on the person who leads it? Do you refuse to open your mouth if the leader is someone with whom you have had a tiff? Do you refuse to join the singing if the one who began it started in the wrong pitch or beats a wrong rhythm? Do such small things irritate you to an extent to keep aloof and silent? Learn to overcome such emotional scratches.
  2. Do you often begin your prayer with, “O Lord, I thank you for this wonderful time of prayer,” or “this beautiful morn?” This may mean you are slipping into a routine of unconscious expressions. Try to be fresh in prayer. Be novel and natural. Think of new ways to say hello to God. Think of new names to address Him.
  3. Do you follow a fixed schedule in prayer? For example, morning, worship; afternoon, Missions; night, personal needs and confession. It is good to have a schedule. But if you are too rigid you may miss wonderful experiences in prayer. Be flexible. Read the Biblical postures and try them; pray for the Biblical subjects and flow with the Spirit.
  4. Are you in the habit of spending prayertime other than in prayer? Those who cannot discipline themselves in prayer often resort to sermons, songs, etc. In group prayers try to cut short exhortations and give more time for prayer. The exhortation given before prayer must be short and sharp to stimulate one to pour himself out in prayer. Mary the mother of Jesus was constantly in prayer (Acts 1:14).
  5. Have you cried in prayer? Try tears. It is not a must that you cry but you can ask God for the blessing of tears. When nobody is at home, or in your prayer closet, you can prostrate yourself on the floor to pour out your heart for serious matters. Unburden yourself. Intercede with strong crying and tears. This was the way of the prophets of old and no wonder they were effective!
