Success of Failure
Reading: Ruth 1:1-5,20
“Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Call me Mara,
because the Lord Almighty has made my life very bitter”
(Ruth 1:20)
Naomi left the God-given land to Moab in search of greener pastures, when there was a drought in Israel, even though most people opted to stay back. It is quite possible that Naomi was plagued with guilt thinking: I should have discouraged my husband from going to Moab. See now, God is so angry with me. I lost my husband. My sons married pagan women. My sons died. My life is in shambles because of my foolishness. But God was weaving golden threads in the fabric of her black life. He led her Moabite daughter-in-law to marry Boaz in whose veins ran Gentile blood and made them a shadow of the substance — Christ and His Gentile bride. God chiselled Naomi to face tragedies, to live with Gentile women whom her sons chose to marry and made her the mature woman she became.
“We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Rom 8:28, 29). May be Eunice wept all her life for emotionally falling in love with a Greek man. But God gave her a Timothy to comfort her (Acts 16:1).
If you have committed a sin or mistake, all is not gone. Spring back. “Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again” (Prov 24:16). If you want to make your failure a success, come to God and continue your life with courage in His way. Believe that in all this He is moulding you into the image of His Son. Learn your lessons. Eve fell in sin but she rose up to become the mother of all living. Sarai made a grave error but she became Sarah, the mother of nations. Kings came from her (Gen 17:15,16).
Don’t let the devil discourage you. The greatest mistake you can do after your failure is to give up on life. Never do that. Believe in God and double-up your efforts in spiritual things. Don’t let the devil condemn you. He is the accuser (Rev 12:10). Tell yourself, “It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me; who will condemn me?” (Isa 50:9). God never gives up on anybody. He has not given up on you. Take heart and turn your failures into successes.
