025. Seetha and Geetha
Seetha was from a small village called Velampatti. Her mother always bought her cotton dresses with flowers printed. She oiled her hair and plaited it. Seetha’s parents were teachers. Seetha always greeted her teachers and elders by folding her hands and
saying namaskar. Everybody loved her.
She was dark and her teeth were long and she felt shy about it. In the village there was no treatment for that, and her parents couldn’t afford treatment in a city.
One day her father gave her a great news. The family of her uncle Sridhar was coming to India from Singapore for good. His daughter Geetha was Seetha’s cousin and of the same age. Seetha’s family was going to Chennai airport to receive them.
After a long wait the plane landed. The family walked out. Seetha was excited to see her cousin. Geetha was fair. Her hair was oilfree and flying all over. Her lipstick matched her top. She was wearing shorts and high heels. Seetha ran forward
to give her a hug and a kiss. But Geetha quickly extended her hand and shook Seetha’s and turned around to greet others. Though Seetha was disappointed she didn’t show it outside. Her uncle and aunt gave her lot of gifts.
Six months later they were invited for Geetha’s birthday party. Again Geetha ignored Seetha. She had found some stylish friends in her new school. Seetha felt sad but Geetha’s parents gave her a beautiful dress that made up for everything.
Back at home Seetha’s parents comforted her. Soon it was time for +2 exams. Seetha worked hard. When the final results were announced Seetha couldn’t believe her eyes. Her photograph was on the front page of the newspaper among the toppers. She joined
the medical college as a credit student on government scholarship.
